Certifiably Sweet
Gina Sedivy of the new Sensational Bites (3751 N. Southport Ave.; 773-248-2271) has an ideal résumé for a pastry shop owner: a baking certificate from CHIC, stints at Tru and Artopolis Bakery, a year of heading up the kitchen at Sweet Mandy B’s. “It’s kind of an eclectic pastry shop,” Sedivy says of her new venture. “Coffee cakes, quick breads, scones, and fancier desserts like fruit tarts, éclairs; French pastries; down-home cakes like yellow cake with buttercream; truffles, rum balls, cupcakes. I do a great lemon cookie that is from my grandmother.” Drooling, Pollack sneaked in over the weekend and bought bags full of Sedivy’s confections—and was particularly smitten with the banana mini bundt cake. (The “kids” around the office scarfed down the peanut butter frosted chocolate cupcakes, but they’ll eat anything.)
